| The
Afritopic Magazine team aims to provide African descendants and the multicultural
communities world-wide with historical, current, cultural, educative as
well as useful, motivational and inspirational information.
As a result of the African Diaspora,
the population of African descendants is growing in different parts of
the world. In the Americas and the Caribbean Islands, while the African
descendants are still in the minority, their cultural and socio-economic
impacts are recognized. In contrary, despite the growing but still very
small population of African descendants in Europe and Asia, their
cultural and socio-economic impact is not recognized and in fact
classified as negligible. In addition to this, the media in general
tends to be biased in their reports on issues concerning Africa and
African descendants. It is true that Africa is facing some political and
economic problems. The critics should however admit that many of these
problems are the result of colonial assault inflicted upon Africa and
the unjustified global market imbalances. This problem by the side,
Africa remains a rich continent with natural resources, beautiful
landscapes, national parks and game reserves as well as interesting
people and culture.
The African descendants communities
in different parts of Europe and Asia are growing into multicultural
societies, the way it is in the Americas and the Caribbean Islands. This
situation raises the issue of heritage identification as the case was in
the Americas and the Caribbean Islands. The African descendants in North
America, in the course of their fight for heritage identification and
recognition, fought through the names “Negro” and
“Afro-American” to finally arrive at the recognized name
“African-American”.
The
African descendants in Europe and Asia are now going through the same
process of finding commonly accepted and recognized name. In Germany for
example, names like Afro-Deutsche, Schwarze-Deutsche, Afro-German,
Black-German and lately African-German are used to refer to African
descendants in Germany. The Afritopic Magazine team prefers to use the
prefix “African-“ when referring to African descendants anywhere in
the world, in conformity with African-American.
