|Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2005|
|Odile Haustant, Francophony|
The team & I had a tough decision judging this category. There were four strong candidates. and it was very close….and the winner is:
Francophony, based in Tottenham, is a cultural magazine in French, aiming at supporting readers learning or improving their French. It also serves to raise awareness of the various French speaking cultures. This business has worked closely with the Enfield Enterprise Agency and other support organisations for advice and help to raise start-up finance.
Success has been demonstrated in that the magazine is already stocked in an impressive number bookshop chains including Borders and Ottakars and they have sold advertising to companies such as Ryan Air, Eurostar, Virgin France and Voice Telecom.
We believe this Francophony is a well deserved finalist and recognises the hard work Odile has put into the business. It serves as an illustration of how new businesses and young entrepreneurs need to have grit and determination and how they need to learn to jump over a variety of hurdles to reach their goals. Odile shines as a beacon to all, especially other Black Ethnic entrepreneurial women, who are becoming a powerful force in growing businesses.
